Ghee

Booley Ghee is a clarified butter oil made from 100% Irish creamery butter. Similar to coconut oil, ghee is a healthy fat with a high smoke point.

With its buttery, nutty flavour, ghee provides a great alternative to coconut oil, olive oil, rapeseed oil and butter when frying, roasting and even baking. A spoon of our delicious golden ghee is also ideal for rice dishes (Biryani), curries and sauces, melting over cooked vegetables, baby spuds and even porridge.

Making Ghee

Cooking with Ghee

Once a cooking oil is heated, it will begin to smoke, break down (oxidise) and release free radicals upon reaching a certain temperature. This is known as ‘smoke point’ and different oils have different properties. When frying in a hot pan, it is important to use a fat with a very high smoke point that can withstand the heat and not burn. And while certain oils are great for salad dressings and cooking at low temperatures, they shouldn’t be heated or cooked, especially at high temperatures.

Ghee has a high SMOKE POINT

Booley Ghee has a smoke point of 252°C making it the best alternative to traditional cooking oils and fats for all types of cooking.

Booley TIP!

Add a spoon of Booley Ghee in place of your regular cooking oil or fat when frying, stir frying, roasting, starting a dish i.e. curry or drizzle over toast, pancakes, waffles and grain dishes.

Ghee contains butyrate

Ghee contains Butyrate, an essential short chain fatty acid, which acts as a detoxifier

Uses

  • Steak in pan with herbs and garlic

    BROWNING MEATS

Browning meat before adding to a dish is the foundation to any good meal. The trick for an evenly seared piece of meat is to cook in small batches (don’t overcrowd the pan). The aim is to get as much colour on all sides in the shortest time (colour = flavour). We always brown our meat in Booley Ghee before adding to one-pot wonders like stews, casseroles and curries.

  • CRISPY FRIED EGGS

For a booleylicious fried egg, heat a teaspoon of ghee in a very hot pan. Let it heat up for a minute before cracking in a delicious free-range egg. Allow your egg to sit and bubble and hiss until the edges reach the level of crispiness you like. If you like your yolk a little more done, carefully spoon over some of the delicious melty, nutty ghee until it meets your desired preference. Serve over crusty sour dough, fried rice or noodles, or simply on buttery toast.

  • STIR-FRYING

Booley Ghee is perfect for high heat stir-frys. Simply heat your wok, add your ghee and toss in your favourite aromatics, vegetables and/or meats for a quick and easy meal. Our Oriental ghee is infused with fresh aromatics (garlic, ginger and chilli) making it the perfect base for a quick and delicious meal.

  • ROASTING

Roasting vegetables with ghee transforms them, giving them a buttery taste like no other. Simply replace your traditional cooking oil/fat with ghee to coat root veg (carrots, turnips, and parsnips), squash, sweet potatoes and more…
